Magic Leap: Giving a Magic Touch to Augmented Reality
Rony Abovitz President, CEO & Founder
“What if computing could spill outside the computer?”—this was the question twirling in Rony Abovitz’s mind on a road trip to Austin in 2011. He was dreaming of a future that seemed impossible before and wanted the wheel of creativity to be driven by technological capabilities. His curiosity and imagination to connect the digital world with the real one gave birth to Magic Leap. Abovitz, now the CEO of Magic Leap, started the company with the vision to paint his imagination on the canvas of reality.
With their leap towards magic, the Magic Leap team is all set to reinvent the physics of augmented reality
Founded in 2011, the Florida-based company came into being with the motive of making humans smarter. Since its inception, the company has witnessed a complete shift in visual computing and working towards bringing an improved augmented reality experience. Having started the company with a bunch of people, today, Magic Leap has ‘leapers’—a team of thousands of artists, engineers, explorers, and dreamers across the globe. Magic Leap provides a mixed reality lightfield platform and calls it a photonic lightfield chip which uses waveguides to superimpose 3D images over real-world objects. The chip controls the flow of photons that generates a digital lightfield signal.
With their leap towards magic, the Magic Leap team is all set to reinvent the physics of augmented reality. It is working towards bringing together a computing platform for everyone, one of context, presence, intelligence, and experience. The CEO believes that the platform will bring the gamers, game designers, writers, coders, musicians, filmmakers, and artists, all under one roof. Magic Leap’s platform is also looking forward to transform the process of education, revolutionize how things are designed, build real communications—and how one can walk around in an entirely new world.
